Middleborough Police responded to an incident at May K. Goode Elementary School around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, according to Chief Joseph Perkins.
Initial investigation suggests that a fifth grade student was allegedly assaulted by a part-time cafeteria monitor, Perkins said. The employee is not a teacher at the school and was immediately placed on leave after the incident.
The student was treated by the school nurse and their parents were informed about the incident, Perkins said.
The employee is expected to be charged with assault and battery in Wareham District Court. They will not be identified unless the charge is approved.
